Slavin Monument is an obelisk in Bratislava, raised to pay homage to Soviet Army soldiers who died during the WWII.
Slavin Monument is surrounded by military cemetery and was a very important place during the Soviet times. The monument was opened in 1960 and was being built for 3 years. On a 40 m high column there is a sculpture of a gigantic soldier. In the cemetery, nearly 7,000 soldiers are buried. From the Slavin Monument, you will have a beautiful scenery of a sprawling Bratislava. Apart from the main sculpture, you will find various smaller statues and even a sarcophagus made of white marble. Most of the political proceedings take place nearby the Slavin Monument.
