Home > The 18th Bratislava International Film Festival
The Bratislava Film Festival is the largest and one of the most important international cinema events in Slovakia’s capital. It was established in 1999. However, the origins of that event are dated back to early 1990's when Forum International Film Festival took place. The Bratislava Film Festival is the event where cinema laymen, aficionados and professionals gather each year. The aim of the Festival is to develop the identity of a young festival, to discover new names of contemporary cinema and to develop the concept of a film festival of the urban type. During the festival there are organised three international competitions which are dedicated to filmmakers of documentary, short debuts or second films.
The festival is divided into many sections: Fiction Competition, Documentary Competition, Short Competition, Cinema Now, Europa, Europa Special – LUX Prize, Made in Slovakia, Topic: Family, Focus: Greece, Junior: Cintemporary Animation for Children, Special Event and more. There are also many slide events. That year, there will be for instance: Lida Suchy – Portrait of a Village, Master Class: Mišo Suchý, Movie striptease: One-man-show by Peter Gärtner, Gramophon Brothers and many more.
The 18th Bratislava International Film Festival take place in November, 11–17, 2016.
All events are held in Kino Lumière, Kino Mladosť, Kino Nostalgia and Gorila.sk Urban Space.
